Our First Pregnent Husband?

http://advocate.com/issue_story_ektid52664.asp

Are we ready for the first pregnent man? As technology advances it is becoming possible for legal "men" to carry babies. Do you agree with the shocked and negative reaction of many doctors that this couple had to deal with, or were the doctors wrong? Are we wrong to tamper with mother nature's intentions? Or is human nature itself the ability to define for ourselves who we are?

This article brings up many questions to ask. Is it right to have child as a women, then change back to a man? What is the child going to think when he/she is older and realizing that his 'father' is his mother. I believe that sometimes people do this gain attention. She is still a woman, only with huge testosterone levels (and other hormones) before the pregnancy.

Interesting point Derek - the reaction of the son or daughter is certainly and important piece in the puzzle. We do have a way to partially answer your question now if we look at how children function who have two parents of the same gender. We do have examples of adoption by gay couples in some states. I'm not aware of any sociological work that looks at the how well those children function but that would be a place to start to answer your question. Whether she is indeed "still a woman" is an interesting point as well. I believe the state of Massachusetts considers the mother to be a man legally, though I'll have to double check on that.

Theoretically the parents will never have to tell her daughter that she was carried out by her "father." His or her face looks quite male to me and therefore the child could grow up as a usual child would.
I find it dangerous though how all the hormones that have been injected into the father/mother over all the years will effect the child, especially since they say it is going to be a girl.
However, I hope that the girl will be healthy and will not have too much trouble getting through life with this quite unusual situation...
